The latest update to Microsoft's productivity suite. Any good? |
Site: www.microsoft.co.nzRRP: Home and Student (Full Version) $299 inc. GST Microsoft's latest update to its very popular Office productivity software gives the package its most radical visual facelift in years. There are new features on offer, including yet another variation in the default Word document format, but the most striking change is the inclusion of the “ribbon” interface that groups common creation/editing functions together at the top of the display screen for each application. Pros: If you’re new to Office, the ribbon layout is quite intuitive, with simple and clear headings for common tasks, and even those with some experience can find features that have previously been buried in sub-menus and benefit from some of the advanced features. Cons: Heavy users of previous Office packages will still have to retrain themselves, and face some frustration trying to work out where certain functions are. If you’re a light user of the individual applications, the new interface probably isn’t enough to make you upgrade unless your work really requires it. Verdict: A good update, but only worth it this early if you have a business need to know the new ribbon interface.
